The U.S. Geological Survey es-timates that 841 million metric tons of aggregates were produced and shipped for consumption in the third quarter of 2006, down 3.2% from the same period in 2005. Estimated output for the first nine months was 2.2 billion tons, a slight decrease from 2005. Total aggregates production for consumption decreased in 32 of the 45 reporting states. The largest decreases occurred in in West Virginia (21.7%), Oregon (20.2%), Mississippi (14.3%), Kansas (12.9%), and Maryland (10.4%).
