The Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway Expansion, pictured on page 60 of the November issue and above right, is a great boon for commuters in the Tampa area. In October 2007, it was recognized with the International Bridge, Tunnel & Turnpike Association's President's Award as the top toll project in the world. After the expansion's first year of operation, it is operating more than 25% ahead of traffic and revenue projections and reducing Tampa commuters' drive time by more than 50%. The topic of the accompanying article titled "Boon or boondoggle?" was related to the proposed FHWA long-term bridge monitoring contract and not a ques-tion related to Tampa's successful elevated-lanes project.
