As an equipment manager for the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Duane Byers gets plenty of input on equipment preferences from the nine counties in his west-central area of the state. His job is to sort out everyone's equipment "wish list" to provide products that deliver the best results at the least cost. Each of the ODOT's 12 districts is charged with planning, designing, constructing and maintaining roads and bridges. Byers works out of the District 7 headquarters in Sidney, and along with his colleagues is responsible for 2,076 highway miles and 1,409 bridges on state and interstate routes.
