Use of the traffic conflict technique to identify hazardous intersections

摘要

Traffic conflict counts are a good means of predicting and identifying safety problems at intersections. They are particularly useful when insufficient accident data are available. This study used the method detailed in Traffic Conflict Techniques for Safety and Operations, published by the US Department of Transportation in 1998, for the identification of average and abnormally high values of traffic conflicts, for 40, three-leg, unsignalised intersections in Amman, the capital city of Jordan.
