In December, 2005,1.9 m wide speed cushions were installed at two locations in Carmody Street, Hermit Park, Townsville. This note presents data on the installation and its effect on speeds and traffic volumes. Carmody Street is a residential street with approximately 30 abutting residential properties, running parallel to Queens Road, Hermit Park (Figure 1). It is part of a highly regular grid street pattern and has full turning movements at each end. It is thus susceptible to through traffic movements. The roadway is 8.45 m kerb to kerb, and the length of this section of Carmody Street (between Halloran Street and Bowen Road, an arterial) is approximately 310 m. A 50 km/ h speed limit applies in the street, in both the 'before' and 'after' situations.
