Mit etwa 650.000 Autobahnkilometern ist die Verwendung von Ausbauasphalt (Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement, RAP) in Deutschland ein integraler Bestandteil des Straßenbaus. Im Jahre 2013 hatte Deutschland über 11,5 Mio. t an verfügbarem RAP, die größte Menge in Europa (European Asphalt Pavement Association, Asphalt in Figures, 2013). „Die Verwendung von RAP ist ökonomisch, ökologisch und strukturell sinnvoll", erklärte der Deutsche Asphaltverband.
