When the government prepares to stump up cash for city lighting, things must be serious. But we're not talking cosmetic lighting of facades; this is all about crime reduction. Since the 2002 Home Office report 251 on street lighting, which cited a 22% reduction in night crime as a result of upgraded lighting in urban areas, the All Party Parliamentary Lighting Group has been liaising with the Lighting Industry Federation in formalising the funding procedures to enable these dramatic reductions to be repeated across the UK.
