Getting your designs through building control can be slow, especially when local authorities are being asked to check increasing volumes of data. In Scotland, for some years now designers have been encouraged to certify compliance of their projects. The process of regulating and controlling building standards is a devolved function of the Scottish government and is undertaken by the Scottish Building Standards Agency. While the Scottish building standards have much in common with the equivalents produced in Northern Ireland and England and Wales, there are some significant differences in both their requirements and procedures.
