By the time you receive this issue of the RIBAJ, we will all know the result of this year's closely-fought Stirling Prize. I laid a bet at good odds for the benefit - if my building won - of the StMungo's organisation for housing the homeless (www.mungos.org, or the housing charity of your choice, for any of you with a payout burning a hole in your pocket). But another event took place on Stirling Prize night, regarding the homes of the much more fortunate: the announcement of the shortlist for the Manser Medal. This is the award for the best one-off house or significant extension, and it is becoming an important thing in its own right.
