摘要

The government, which makes a great fanfare of its carbon reduction targets, has actually put its support behind the proposal for a third runway and sixth terminal at Heathrow and has passed legislation to help fast-track it through planning. On many different levels, this latest expansion is completely wrong for our collective interests. I like to think that on the whole architects are ahead of the curve when it comes to understanding the environmental implications of our modern way of life, but maybe I am deluded as I hear that architect colleagues have accepted appointments to design it.
