Election fever is starting to grip the country, with mini-manifesto announcements, potential leadership coups and political parties vying for the affections of the British electorate. Public disillusion with politicians has risen due to the expenses scandal, though, while economic problems mean MPs cannot pledge big ideas with big price tags.rnAn unprecedented number of MPs will stand down at the next election. Whatever its outcome, parliament will be a different beast after June 2010. Architecture touches on so many of the politicians' briefs, whether it is providing new schools or hospitals; meeting the carbon challenge; building new housing or creating a more effective planning system.
