It may BE one of the less glamorous aspects of architecture, but good project management and cost control lie behind every successful scheme. So what are the common pitfalls and problems, and how can they be avoided? Jackson Coles, a project management and cost consultancy firm serving the cultural sector, has 30 years of experience spotting and helping address key potential issues. In Colchester, it is client-side project manager and completion co-ordinator for Rafael Vinoly's Firstsite arts centre, and was cost consultant with Adam Khan Architects at Brockholes Visitor Centre in Lancashire. It has also acted as project monitor for the Arts Council at Wakefield and Margate on David Chipperfield's Lottery-funded buildings, and has other smaller schemes under its belt too.
