PAUL morrell's Innovation and Growth Team report clearly pushed major project construction towards building information modelling (BIM) accelerating the direction of travel that is already being seen with both government and private sector clients. But what effect will BIM have on the day-to-day responsibilities of directors? One of a director's key duties is ensuring that properly considered and prepared appointment documentation is in place for all projects, and most issues associated with the use of BIM are common sense. There is not yet any'standard' appointment documents for BIM projects but mutually agreed'BIM clauses'can be appended to existing'standard' appointment documentation (such as RIBA SA 2010), just as other amendments are made.
