Stockport academy , under Manchester Airport's flight path, hosts 1150 pupils aged 11-18. Set over 3-4 storeys, a central curving 'street' provides a tempered environment for performances, display and informal interaction. The service strategy for the building is based on mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. Ground source heat pumps and supplementary gas fired boilers provide heating via an underfloor system and radiators. Chilled beams also provide comfort cooling to a number of areas with excessive heat gain, such as ICT rooms.
