Maxwell Fry was a sort of talisman and I thought it awesome to seek employment in his practice. I wobbled a bit, though I was soon put at ease by his approachability and charm. But he was much abroad and it was not until 1946 when the combined office got going at 63 Gloucester Place, that I had any close association. The mechanics of that office still mystify. How did it keep going with so little formal structure and how did it remain solvent?
