To Europe and back again

East has always emphasised places to establish and sustain a critical architectural position. Early on, rather than wait for a client to find us, we went visiting places that interested us, often around the eastern edges of London. Walking around these marshlands, industrial compounds, and river spaces enabled us to appreciate the specific condition of these city edges, and to devise a specific architectural approach that is about adjustment and joining in, rather than just filling sites with buildings.
