The Architect', May 1987. John McAslan, many an editor will tell you, can be a bit of a control freak when it comes to handling coverage of his buildings. As Godfrey Golzen reported, he was learning the dark arts of publicity right from the start. and Jamie Troughton left Richard Rogers Partnership in 1983. Their first job, and the one that made their name almost at once, came though Rogers' partner, Marco Goldschmied. The Design House in Camden was only a £200,000 refurbishment, but it was on a highly visible corner site and it went on to win the Institute of Management Office of the Year Award. With that came a lot of publicity - and with the publicity came enquiries from prospective clients. Hence John McAslan has become firmly converted to the power of the press as a promotional tool, though he says that, like all tools, you have to learn how to use it.
