Due to recent trends of a high stiffness and low profile configuration of tires for large motorcycles, under-inflated or leaking tires are hard to notice for the rider. The motorcycle tire pressure monitoring system has been developed to alert the rider to a quick loss of air pressure, or to make notification regarding an under-inflated tire to prevent loss of fuel economy. Tests were carried out to clarify the correlation between tire pressure and tire temperature for identification of a tire failure. It has been clarified that the lower the tire pressure, the higher the air temperature, and the higher the vehicle speed, the more vulnerable to a failure that a tire is. Tire failures and as bursting, chipping, etc. tend to occur when the temperature is above 100℃.
