Spokane's motto is "Near Nature, Near Perfect." While not traditionally seen as a west coast city, Spokane has been, like many communities from that area, innovative in its approaches to solid waste, recycling, and household hazardous waste management. Spokane residents have a unique blend of fiscal conservatism and progressive environmental values. And, as such, recycling has been a part of Spokane's waste management practices for over two decades.
