While scrap pricing in May was essentially flat, market indicators pointed toward a softening market for June. The growth in steel consumption globally is slowing down, according to the World Steel Association. While apparent consumption rose about 6 percent last year, it is expected to rise just 4 percent this year and 5 percent in 2013. On the upside, India will see a sharp jump in use in 2012 and 2013, and in the U.S., growth will be 6 percent in each of these years. Pulling global usage down is slower consumption in China and Europe.
