Recycling polystyrene continues to be a challenge today, just as it was 20 years ago.In the October 1996 edition of Resource Recycling, J. Michael Martinez from Dart Container Corporation wrote about his company's efforts to recycle food-service foam products.Dart was and continues to be one of the largest manufacturers of polystyrene food-service products, and 20 years ago it was focusing on polystyrene cups and containers. Dart started a program called CARE (Cups are Recyclable) in places such as hospitals and corporate cafeterias that discarded large amounts of polystyrene on-site.
