At the heart of the Quad Cities region along the Iowa-Illinois border lies the U.S. Army's Rock Island Arsenal, the largest government-owned weapons manufacturing facility in the U.S. In July, the Quad Cities area produced a different kind of weapon: single-stream recycling service. The Waste Commission of Scott County, an intergovernmental organization based in Davenport, Iowa, recently reopened its Scott Area Recycling Center as a single-stream materials recovery facility (MRF). Using sortation equipment from CP Group, the publicly owned and operated facility will sort an estimated 55 tons per day.
