Tourism and Transportation have an essentially symbiotic relationship, each being essential to the development of the other. Transport is a key sector in tourism nationally and globally. Transportation modes supporting tourism include air travel, cruise shipping, and various forms of ground transport (eg. Road, rail). Transportation issues range across many areas of interest to research in tourism economics including provision of tourism supporting infrastructure, destination access and travel within destinations, tourism demand modeling and forecasting, tourism planning, destination competitiveness, inter-governmental regulatory environments, and destination management.
