Our previous works have confirmed the feasibility of interventionl whole body hyperthermia (IWBH) via a series of physical simulation and theoretical analysis. In this paper, experiments were performed on large mammal (canine) in order to further verify in vivo the interventional whole body hyperthermia with the first generation IWBH device developed by our research team. Whole body fever (rectum temperature from 38.6–40.8 °C) was induced and no significant toxicity correlated with IWBH was found. The changes in cardiovascular, respiratory, haemodynamic indices as well as temperature response of the experimental canine were monitored with a physiological monitoring system. The first hand experimental information about IWBH with animal model was obtained. The experimental result demonstrated that IWBH method is relatively safe for animal and is effective in raising body core temperature. Finally, the issues emerging in the experiment and the way to solve them were discussed.
