Serviceable bolt-on desiccant will remove humidity/moisture in Electric Vehicle Battery Pack until saturated, at which point the vehicle can be brought into a dealer to have the desiccant replaced. This is a planned serviceable feature, where the desiccant is recommended to be replaced at a standard vehicle operating length of time (ex. oil change every 5,000 miles), or when desiccant has reached 95% saturation. Mounting location/method to be determined on a pack by pack basis. The desiccant will be electronically connected to the vehicle based upon a measurement of the resistance across the desiccant, or the vehicle usage time; this is done to notify the operator once the desiccant has reached 95% saturation, and that it is recommended to take the vehicle to the dealer to replace the desiccant. The notification can occur either via an Electronic Notification System or similar to a "Change Oil" pop up on the dashboard. The desiccant housing will have a valve which will open and close depending on vehicle run status. Once the vehicle has been ON for approximately 10 minutes, the valve will be open allowing the desiccant to function; approximately 30 minutes after the vehicle has been turned OFF, the valve will be closed, preventing the desiccant from reaching saturation prematurely.
