EDGE BLOCK SYSTEM FOR A ROTARY CUTTER

Machines, such as pavement profilers, milling machines, rotary mixers, planers, and other such milling machines, include an implement for scarifying, removing, mixing, or reclaiming material from surfaces, such as, grounds, roadbeds, and the like. The implement is typically a rotary cutter that is received within a chamber of the machine. The rotary cutter includes a rotatable drum and several cutting assemblies that form a spiral conveyor about a surface of the drum. The cutting assemblies includes blocks that receive a corresponding tool holder and a cutting bit. During machine operation, the material that is cut by the rotary cutter typically includes sharp edges. When such sharp or unmachined edges contact the tool holders, they may cause wearing of the tool holders. Further, in some situations, the material being cut by currently available rotary cutters may not move along spirals of the rotary cutter towards a central part of the rotary cutter. Thus, an improved edge block system has been developed that solves the above-mentioned problems. A description of this development is given below.
