This letter demonstrates the potential of a repeat station imaging and registration approach applied to rapid sequence aerial images captured along the same flightline for detecting moving objects and measuring their velocities. Sequential images share similar view geometries and thus can be precisely registered with simple warping transformations based on just a few matching points. Moving objects were detected as brightness anomalies between sequential images. Precise registration and low-pass filtering minimized false detections associated with misregistration. Velocities were estimated by measuring displacements of moving objects depicted in registered sequential image frames and dividing by the time interval between exposures.
