This work was first published as the Dictionary of the Twentieth Century World History in 1997. The second edition appeared in 2003 as Oxford Dictionary of Contemporary World History from 1960 to the Present Day (RR 2003/421). The start date has reverted to 1900, so the Boer War, 1899-1902 (here entered under South African War) is in, though Queen Victoria, died 1901, failed to make it!rnIt is hard to calculate the number of entries due to the mix of long and short entries, but somewhere between 2,600 and 3,000 I should guess. The principal entries are those for countries and prominent persons such as presidents and prime ministers. Other articles cover wars, treaties, organizations, movements and events.
