Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels (2nd edition)

This volume really does replace the first edition of Dictionary of Jesus and the Gospels, published 20 years ago, as 90 per cent of the original material has been rewritten by a fresh cohort of contributors. There are also some new articles, and the few remaining original articles have been updated in the light of recent research. Of the present contributors, it is interesting to note that virtually all hold doctorates (there is one PhD candidate) and virtually all are attached to academic institutions (there is one independent scholar). Of the nearly 130 contributors, 80 are American, 18 are British (including James D.G. Dunn), 11 are from the continent of Europe (mainly Germany, Holland, Norway and Switzerland, plus one each from Croatia and Spain), 10 are Canadian, 3 are Japanese, 2 are Australian and there is one each from Argentina, Kenya, Hong Kong and India. Not more than 20 are women, and few appear to be Catholic, let alone Orthodox.
