Encyclopedia of Computer Science and Technology (2nd edition)

Ralston et al.'s (2000) Encyclopedia of Computer Science has for years stood as the definitive reference work in this area, but as this has not been revised in nearly two decades, Professor Laplante's work now seeks to become the preeminent computer science reference work for a new generation of readers. Some might argue that the development of the internet over the past 20 years and the associated transformation in the way people consume information has made works of this nature redundant, but this would be a shortsighted view. It is invaluable for students to have a source that they can trust and as Walsh (2016) has highlighted, students still like to read lengthy academic material in print, so there continues to be a need for encyclopedias of this nature. Encouragingly, Professor Laplante views the Encyclopedia as a perpetual project and states that an online version (subsequendy released in October 2017) will also be available and would be updated regularly to keep up to date with developments in the field.
