WITH 2020 just around the corner the subject of which calendar you'd like to hang on your office or bedroom wall may well be on your mind. High up the list should be the latest example from the Western Locomotive Association (WLA). For 2020 the calendar features Westerns on freight duties, all the photos being of various members of the class working china clay, milk, Mendip stone and other freight workings, along with a van train. Some excellent shots recall just how suited the big hydraulic was to hauling heavy freight, something they could so well have continued to do had BR been more sensible with its loco policies. Proceeds go towards maintaining the association's two Class 52s, D1013 Western Ranqer and D1062 Western Courier.
