WSR Hymek D7018 Returns

THE MUCH anticipated return of Hymek D7018 took a step closer when it undertook several test runs at the West Somerset Railway on October 24 (both loaded and engine only) in the company of Hymek D7017. D7018 last moved under its own power 23 years ago, in 1995, until it suffered a catastrophic engine failure in the August of that year and was removed from traffic. It was hoped that D7018 would have returned to traffic this year at the June Diesel Gala, but it had to donate parts to solve a last minute problem with D7017, to keep it going. With no major issues found during the test runs D7018 has been taken back inside for final work, ready for a return to service later in 2019.
