Retrofit for DB Schenker Class 189s

Aa the first of its Class, DB Schenker 189.001 turned up at the Velim VUZ test centre last April with the new markings 'Class-189 VM 50Hz'. They indicate that the locomotive has been retrofitted with train protection systems for additional operation in Poland and the Czech Republic. The use of electric locomotives with three-phase propulsion systems within the Czech Republic normally has is its limitations. When such locos have not been equipped with 50Hz filters, their use is restricted to two main transit corridors and a small number of other lines.
