Service Entry for GBRf 73/9s

The first three refurbished Class 73/9 locomotives have entered service with GB Railfreight as part of a ten-year lease agreement with Network Rail. The locos (73961-963) will be used by NR for hauling infrastructure monitoring and engineering trains. Refurbishment of the 1960s-built electro-diesels has been carried out by Wabtec's Brush Traction subsidiary at Loughborough. The original 600hp English Electric diesel engine has been replaced with a brand new 1,600hp MTU R43 4000 V8, which matches the original locomotive's rating in electric mode.
