It has been said that for a successful term as a president, you must pick one issue, focus on it, stick with it and deliver it. After reviewing my past six years on the AREMA Board of Direct-ors, the one area that I felt needed attention was to realign AREMA's strategic plan with the railway industry's future direction. To do that, AREMA needed both top railway engineering officials' input, as well as a streamlined, more-flexible organizational structure at the Board level.
