Software for control points was developed to be configurable via external inputs. These inputs configured a control point to first operate as a discrete interlocking within double-track, single-direction-running ABS territory, later as a TCS control point adjacent to ABS territory, and finally as a control point within a complete TCS system. Before commissioning, the factory-tested software was re-tested in the field at each configuration level. Switch machines were placed into electric operation at this time. Testing was performed over several nights. Each morning, the control point was restored to service at a proven level, often with switch machines returned to manual mode. After all tests were satisfied, the control point was configured and left in service as a discrete interlocking within ABS territory. Interlocking signals governing reverse moves within the existing ABS system were temporarily configured to provide aspects no more favorable than proceed at restricted speed.
