Trains to operate without drivers or any other onboard personnel have to meet different requirements from those for trains for conventional operations. The technical outlay on retrofitting existing trains for automatic operation is much more intensive than ordering automatic trains to begin with. The need to replace part of the existing metro fleet in Nuremberg is one of the factors creating a particularly favourable environment for this particular project. The article concentrates on the technical particularities that make these new two-car class-"DT3" sets suitable for AGT (automatic guided transit).
