With the development and construction of the Metropolitan passenger train for Deutsche Bahn and the LiREx (Light Innovative Regional Express) prototype for Alstom LHB, FTD (Fahrzeug-technik Dessau AG) managed to demonstrate its competence in the engineering and building of complete, sophisticated rail vehicles. With the development from scratch of a whole family of trains, given the name of "Protos", the company has now succeeded in joining the ranks of system houses. A salient feature of the Protos multiple units is their maximum degree of layout flexibility, thanks to the consistent implementation of a modular construction.%Die Fahrzeugfamilie PROTOS~® ist gekennzeichnet durch eine größtmögliche Flexibilität der Fahrzeuggestaltung unter konsequenter Umsetzung der Modulbauweise.
