Method for measuring radar (RAD) or sonar of the speed relative to the ground (SL) of a carrier (PRT) moving parallel to the ground, comprising the following steps: a) orienting the line of sight of the radar or sonar towards the b) transmit a plurality of signals (P 1 - P N ) radar or sonar directed towards the ground, and acquire respective echo signals (E 1 - E N ); c) process the acquired echo signals so as to obtain, for one or more echo delay values, a corresponding Doppler spectrum; d) for said or at least one said echo delay value, determining a high cutoff frequency of the corresponding Doppler spectrum; ete) calculating the speed of the carrier relative to the ground from said high cut-off frequency (s). System allowing the implementation of such a method.
