Rail transport through Turkey is of great strategic importance for the countries of the European Union and the Middle East. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation have emphasised the importance of improving the national railway network in conjunction with investment in maritime and road transport, in order to enhance both economic and political relations across the entire Eurasian region. To this end, the government has confirmed that €27 billion will be invested in the railways of Turkey by 2020.
