Leisure and tourist travel has long been an important source of revenue for railways in Switzerland, and SBB's launch of the Gotthard Panorama Express in April (RG 5.17 p70) is just the latest among a string of initiatives designed to attract travellers from around the world to the Swiss network. As SBB's Director for Passenger Traffic Jeannine Pilloud said when SBB ran a preview trip on April 8, 'it is not just for the people of Switzerland, but for our guests from all over the world'.
