Muenchen - Berlin unity route inaugurated

Special trains from Miinchen and Niirnberg, celebrations in cities along the route and a spectacular arrival in Berlin Hauptbahnhof marked the inauguration on December 8 of the 107 km high speed line between Ebensfeld and Erfurt. This is the last major element in the Miinchen - Berlin upgrading scheme known as German Unity Project VDE8 launched in 1991, which Federal Transport Minister Christian Schmidt described during the celebrations as the 'centrepiece of German unity'.
