CD accused of predatory pricing

The European Commission has reached a preliminary view that state-owned operator Ceske Drahy may have engaged in predatory pricing on the Praha -Ostrava route in 2011-19, in breach of EU rules. That route is operated on a commercial basis, rather than under public service contracts. In 2011 and 2012 RegioJet and Leo Express launched services in competition with the incumbent, leading to a doubling of the number of passengers within a few years. However, there were complaints that CD had responded by introducing low fares that did not cover its costs with the aim of hindering competition.
