Path prepares for a second century

It began life a century ago as the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad, an apt description of its bi-state transit role. Older veteran riders still refer to it as "The Tubes"; a few even call it "New. Jersey's subway." But PATH, the Port Authority Trans-Hudson rapid transit system, may transcend its role as a commuter feeder/distributor that it inherited in 1962, when it assumed operations from the Pennsylvania Railroad-owned H&M, which had launched bi-state revenue service in February 1908.
