The RFTrax~(TM) Wireless Accelerometer for Locomotives is the newest addition to the Asset Command Unit (ACU) with integrated accelerometer sensor, which helps railroads and shippers identify the time and location of impacts that can damage railcars and freight.The accelerometer is a sensor that works in conjunction with the ACU to measure and report motion in three axes: vertical, inline, and cross-line. The unit tracks the location of the locomotive, identifies time and location of any impacts above a specified threshold, determines the type and intensity of impacts, and documents events so corrective action can be taken. It measures wheelslip and overspeed/inline impacts, including excessive buff and draft action, and vertical events that may be experienced at rough crossings or through railcar motion such as pitch and bounce.
