Bids sought for Crossrail

Crossrail is inviting expressions of interest from bidders for the contract to provide rolling stock and depot facilities. The ￡lbn contract will cover around 60 trains, which will need to be 200 metres in length and accommodate up to 1,500 passengers. The trains will need to be based on existing technology, to save development costs, and funded by private finance, which will be recouped once the railway becomes operational. Bidders will have to provide a strategy for financing the rolling stock.
