Green ways for Europe A determined policy for Wallonia (Belgium)

This article is an opportunity for the author to inform leading international rail sector experts about the efforts made in Wallonia, a region with 3.5 million inhabitants, and with the support of the Belgian Government, to promote a network of greenways in response to public demand and as part of a process of applying a resolutely innovative and ground-breaking new approach to the problem of sustainable development. Sustainable development is one of the key features of the Government's programme. It has been a leitmotiv for all departments since the enormous importance of combining fostering economic development with allowance for specific social and environmental factors to enhance and enrich the legacy we shall leave to future generations was first recognised.
