Renewable Energy Policies And Their Implications: Outlook And Insight Into Selected European Green Electricity Markets And Successful Policy Mechanisms

Acting successfully in today's power market signifies providing electric utilities with a new identity in order to gain an advantageous position in the liberalised markets. But there is more to it: one has to face the challenges of contributing to the Kyoto-targets. The awareness for environmentally friendly power generation technologies, and thus emission reductions in Europe is already large and growing significantly. The progress of implementing and adding electricity generation capacity from renewable energy sources has accelerated largely during the last decade, in particular in countries like Germany, Denmark, Spain, Sweden and Austria where the renewable energy industry created an entirely new work field, providing a fair amount of new jobs. Other countries have started off later; recent examples are France, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
