Passenger rail fares in Poland

The fares system must be designed to cover the prime costs of carriage over long tomers. Those behind the Czech Railways' tariff unveiled in 2002 and the new DB fares system launched in 2003 believe that they have simplified the complicated system of reductions and devised a more attractive offer in comparison with the previous system. All of the railways studied, with the exception of the Polish Railways, have a system structured along those lines. A universal tariff that provides a range of discounts covering a broad section of the travelling public needs to be developed in Poland, i.e. incentives for frequent train users, with occa-sional user covering the full travel cost.
