Facing the challenges of transition ― Reform and market

For the last two years the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (since 4 February 2003 Serbia and Montenegro) has been going through a radical process of social transformation, a process including changes affecting the country's legal status. At the moment Yugoslavia is engaged in rapid transition from the former system to a market economy. The reforms set in train also include a revival of cooperation on a new basis among the region's different countries. This will set the foundations for closer involvement of our country in the process of integration in Europe and beyond. Transport in general, and rail transport in particular, has a vital role in setting the conditions for efficient cooperation between the Yugoslav economy and the other countries in the region.
